Plakias Horse Riding Center is situated in Damnoni, Plakias only 30 Km south of the city of Rethimnon, Crete.

Plakias, is a charming little village on the south coast of Crete, famous for its beautiful beaches and amazing countryside.

Initially a tiny fishing village with a few houses, Plakias has developed in the last few decades into an easy-going tourist resort. The first official mention of Plakias was in 1961, when it was recorded in a census as the permanent home of six fishermen.

The history of the surrounding mountain villages like Myrthios and Sellia goes back into the 10th century when the Byzantine Emperor Nikephoros II Phokas (961 AD) built roads and bridges in order to connect those villages.

Plakias has a 1300-metre-long sandy beach and several other beaches within walking distance (Souda, Damnoni, Ammoudi and Skhinaria). To the east stands the famous Monastery of Preveli, and the amazing Preveli Palm beach.

There are two roads into Plakias through the magnificent mountain range which lies to its north, both of which pass through strikingly breathtaking gorges – the Kotsifos Gorge and the Kourtaliotiko Gorge. On exciting either gorge you will be welcomed by the spectacular views of the Libyan Sea to the south.

Once a small fishing village, over the last few decades Plakias has developed into a popular holiday destination. The village has been developed to facilitate the needs of the visitors, from large hotels to small friendly family owned apartments, organized beaches, supermarkets, tavernas, etc.
